MS Dhoni: an Honest Review

It’s the MS Dhoni, one of the most awaited films ever, making loads of cash, and so expectations naturally go high and are naturally let down, a little.

Let us bgein with the starting of the film. The first scene is that of the 2011 World Cup final where MS Dhoni is getting all prepped to go out on the field and win the match. Then we jump onto the scene of his birth with the Doctor mistakenly telling MS Dhoni’s father that he is getting a girl. I found that scene of no significance. Granted the first scene of the World Cup was full of adrenaline, the second scene abruptly and conspicuously lowered the bar of the film, and though hardly anyone would give so much attention to such a little detail, I did. The Father then says something insignificant and stupid. Although I get it that a film needs some time to build the story, but I just don’t get the point of that scene.

But then things start to catch up the pace, we hear a lot of indirect satire towards the Indian society, that gives more important to studies than to sports. I really liked this as I agree with it.
I don’t think I am an expert on acting but Sushant did a great job of playing Dhoni and it fits him. In fact at times he looked so much like Dhoni, I almost thought Dhoni was doing a cameo.

I somtimes thought the backround music inappropriate and loud, but in one scene I really liked the tune and it fit with the theme and tension.

The main problem I had with the film was that it was too darn long. Yes, it was stretched and sometimes it lost its grip, I found myself tapping my feet and asking myself how long it was to go on, and that is not a good sign. The romances seemed forced and Bollywood-like essentially.

Also, alas, the heroines were irritating, to a degree. I almost wanted to snap at Priyanka to shut her mouth and stop showing those oh-so-perfect teeth in an effort to look feminine and ethereal. But I often get this feeling in many films when the heroines talk in those annoying whispers, and the director tries to make them look divine. Even when they walk, they slighlty shift their hips this way and that, in a way to look desirable.
The batting sequences were really awesome where the batsman would hit sixes and fours again and again.
And the few short spells of laughter were endearing.
In a nutshell, though the film could’ve been better I am not complaining.
